PREVIEW: Hull City v Sheffield United

Now what's all this talk of 'not minding Sheffield United winning if it stuffs up Leeds getting promoted' nonsense? Who in their right mind wants their own club to lose? Anyone with such thoughts is either a) not a proper fan of Hull City, or b) too dim to see the solution. Let CI put you out of your misery. You can have your cake AND eat it. Hull City win today versus Sheffield United, while Brentford beat Leeds later in the day. Voila! So simple and the status quo remains unaffected... except Hull City get a win. Lovely.

Nigel Adkins faces his former club mathematically knowing the curtain comes down on any miracle top six ambition with anything other than a win. To beat Sheffield United and keep such ambitions alive (depending on results elsewhere) would be sweet, so you just know City will be fired up for the match. Plus, there's a twelve match unbeaten home run to preserve. Yet, the Tigers will have to do it without skipper Markus Henriksen and Reece Burke, who both look certain to be ruled out with injury.

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has done a fantastic job this season, but with goal difference being the wafer thin difference separating themselves from Leeds and maintaining their top two place, there can be no room from error. However, two influential players are missing for the visitors in captain Chris Basham and top scorer Billy Sharp, both suffering with hamstring injuries. However, defender John Egan returns from a one match ban.
