SUMMARY: Hull City 2-1 Wigan Athletic

Hull City left it mighty late - and had to come from a goal down - to overturn a stubborn Wigan Athletic side battling to preserve their Championship status. Yet, as has been seen many times in recent months, the Tigers do not give away cheap points at the Circle, showing tremendous character to snatch all the spoils deep into this match.

Left to our own de-Wijs!

The Tigers were the better side throughout this fixture, but found Wigan to be a plucky opponent. Bowen came close to providing a 16th minute lead, but struck the base of the post when fed in. Just six minutes later, Pugh was mithering the frame of the goal once more, this time a deft touch cushioning the bar, but still a goal was not forthcoming. So a real kick in the teeth then, when ex-Tiger Powell netted a 41st minute opener for the visitors to give Wigan a 0-1 half time lead.

The Latics had been given clear instruction to loiter and frustrate the hosts for the second period given their new found lead, but the plan received a spoke in the works when Watson fumbled a Grosicki shot and Campbell pounced to tuck in the spillage just six minutes into the half. Campbell was lively and come close again when flashing a fierce drive just past the post 15 minutes later, but the scores remained tied. That was until de-Wijs powered in a bullet header from a corner in the final minute to seal the match for City.
