SUMMARY: Chelsea 4-0 Hull City - FA Cup Rd 5

A shed load of injuries, three of the back four ineligible to play against their parent club and a raft of suspensions amongst the squad, ensured a patched up Hull City full of kids and reserves would be tasked with beating champions Chelsea in FA Cup Round 5. You can guess what comes next...

FA Cup 5th Round

A disastrous start saw City fall behind after just 2 minutes when Willian curled in. Irvine scooted a decent effort over the bar in a rare attack from the visitors in the opening 45, but Pedro cashed in on 27 minutes to double Chelsea's advantage. While the Tigers showed endeavour, the visitors were simply overwhelmed and five minutes later it was 3-0 to the hosts. A wretched half was complete when Giroud netted from close range three minutes before the break.

However, City were afforded a route back into the match five minutes into the restart when Wilson was tripped, yet Meyler saw his penalty saved. Although the tie was gone, the Tigers at least showed spirit and created some great chances that should've bore goalscoring fruit. Irvine, Toral, Diomande and Campbell all wasted decent opportunities to score that would've provided small consolation. But ultimately, this tie was step too far in Round 5 of the FA Cup for Hull City.
