SUMMARY: Hull City 0-2 Sunderland

The Tigers allowed their relegation jitters to jangle, after a carefree Sunderland side produced football without any pressure on their shoulders, to severely wound Hull City's chances of survival in the Premier League, as the home team went down to a miserable 0-2 defeat.

A nervous start saw City gradually grow into the game, Grosicky was causing problems on the left and Clucas forced a decent save, before Maguire fired just wide. City's claim for a penalty were turned down when O'Shea raised an arm, before Hernandez shot wide as the hosts upped the tempo. The Tigers were making all the clear running, but couldn't find the final pass, to pierce the Sunderland defence, as the first half ended without a goal.

Sunderland almost took a shock lead when Defoe raced clear, then N'Diaye scuffed a close range chance, before Markovich saw a header palmed over. Hernandez had a shot deflected wide as City continued to press without a breakthrough. Yet, it was the visitors taking the lead when Jones headed in from a corner on 69 minutes. Niasse and Hernandez pushed with shots after Markovic left the field injured, but it wasn't City's day. To add insult to injury - Defoe clearly offside - netted from close range to seal the game in stoppage time.
