Good afternoon,

This is my first post.
I hope that you may be able to help me or if not are able to pass my enquiry on to someone who may be able to assist.
I compile the records for the Scotland International team with details as line-ups, clubs of the players, scorers etc.on the Rec.Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation (RSSSF) website that is an international organization dedicated to collecting statistics about association football.
We do not know if our records are correct in relation to a Hull City player on loan at Cardiff City and hope that you might be able to help.
We know that the goalkeeper Allan McGregor was on loan at Cardiff since 18 January 2017 but we have not the precise date of the end of his loan spell.
Football websites disagree about the end of his loan spell during that season and newspapers on line talk about it simply as “until the end of the season”. So, please, at what precise date did the loan end ?

Any help you can give will be very much appreciated.
Maybe your historian/statistician could help me ?

I don't know of any way to be more accurate about this. I can't see why a club would want to pay a player beyond the final match of the season. McGregor's final game was on April 28th, but Cardiff's final game was on May 7th. The division's play-off final was on May 29th, but Cardiff were never likely to make the play-offs.

.......

McGregor's final game for Cardiff was in the 0-2 home defeat against Newcastle (whose second scorer was ex-Hull City loanee Isaac Hayden).

McGregor was left out of Cardiff's next game on May 7th, the final one of the season. Cardiff were safely in mid-table by this point, and their opponents Huddersfield were securely in a play-off position. Cardiff chalked up a 3-0 away win, helped by Huddersfield keeper Danny Ward's 20th minute red card.

Huddersfield went on to win promotion via the play-offs, despite winning none of their final five games of the season. The play-off semi-final and final were both decided on penalties, with Ward returning for the final. The final was played on May 29th.

At Hull City, we expected McGregor to leave that summer. Jakupovic was doing a sterling job in goal and we expected him to stay, but he decided to go to Leicester and watch them play.

Thanks a lot !

You gave me a great explanation but unfortunately my not good English doesn't help me to understand well the obviously indispensable 'maze' of dates....

So, which was the correct one of the end of his loan spell ?

9th of May (after the end of the Championship) or 31st May after the end of the play-offs ?

Sorry, thanks again

The short answer is that I don't know.

No problem. Italy will be the New England when you leave the EU like the Brits.....

Baldwin is the agent for McGregor.

As ToP says above, 9th May or something was his last game but the contract finished 31 May. I guess it depends on what exactly you want to represent, when he left the building or contractually left.

Doubt I can help beyond that
