Match report from the Hull Packet and East Riding Times, from November 2nd 1883. What were you doing that day? Whereabouts on Hessle Road was the ground in question? Was that James Milner scoring for the home team?

In answer to the second question above, there were playing fields on undeveloped land in Dairycoates.

Double drat!

Saw the title and was certain it would be about ten foot tiger's epiphanous conversion to brexit backer, realising it's mega-capitalist reason to exist, at a rate not dissimilar to his cottoning on to The Mammons.

(apparently, Facebook thinks I have something in common with the imbecile, and suggested we be 'friends', I kid you not)

I've got images from a few other match reports if anyone is interested. Some are weird by today's standards. I've about 7-10 images of complete pages, and the rugby ones are peculiar too. They often don't even mention the scores, just the number of times various scoring methods happened. I'll add some more later. There's a write-up of the 1884 FA Cup Final on one of the pages, so I'll post that too.

The 1884 FA Cup Final, from the Hull Packet & East Riding Times.

"There was great enthusiasm at the finish". I've seen lots of games like that.

Here's an off-topic one. As this was before the rugger schism of 1895, I assume they were playing the current RU rules. Odd they way they summarise the score. I have no idea what "minor points" are.

Even more off-topic, this time about The Hull & Barnsley Railway. Always nice to have ones preamble proved. I wish I could remember where I got these images. Sir Lyon Playfair may have had football connections. Or not.

Cheers TOP.

CI will be summarised in an 1880s style from now on, methinks.
