Saturday's was the 34th 5-5 league draw. I'm not going to list all of them.

Saturday's was the first 5-5 for both Hull City and Bristol City. Their mates Bristol Rovers have had two home 5-5 results.

The first 5-5 draw was between Blackburn Rovers and Accrington (not Stanley), back in 1888 on September 15th. It was on the second week of matches in the football league and was Blackburn's very first league game. Blackburn had another 5-5 at home to Arsenal in 1962, and a third at Birmingham in April 1965. That was Birmingham's first, but they enjoyed it so much they had another the following April, at home to Derby. The second and third 5-5s were in 1895 (Man Utd v Lincoln) and 1898 (Derby v Everton).

Grimsby have played in two 5-5s, both at home in the 1932-33 season. The first was October 15th v Preston and the second January 7th v Charlton. Grimsby played six other home games inbetween and scored one in each.

The most recent 5-5 was in 2012 between West Brom and Man Utd. West Brom came back from 2-5 down and some bloke called Lukaku scored a hat-trick for them. Before that, Chesterfield and Crewe did it 2010, but it was 18 years earlier that Oxford and Portsmouth gone done it, but Soccerbase doesn't have scorers for back then.

Two clubs have played in 3 5-5s:

Blackburn (2 home, 1 away, see above)
West Ham (1 home, 2 away) - like Blackburn, West Ham had two away 5-5s in the 1960s, at Newcastle in 1960 and at Chelsea in 1966.

The next lot have played in two 5-5s:

Two at home:
Birmingham, Bristol Rovers, Grimsby, Tottenham

Two away:
Aston Villa, Charlton, Crewe, Everton

One home, one away:
Chelsea, Coventry, Derby, Man Utd, Newcastle, Sunderland, Walsall

These (32 of them) have played in one each:
Accrington, Accrington Stanley, Arsenal, Barrow, Blackpool, Bolton, Brentford, Bristol City, Chesterfield, Crystal Palace, Darlington, Exeter, Fulham, Halifax, Hartlepool, Huddersfield, Hull City, Leicester, Lincoln, Liverpool, Luton, Middlesbrough, Oxford, Plymouth, Portsmouth, Preston, QPR, Sheffield Utd, Sheffield Wed, Southampton, Swansea, West Brom

Totals by decade:
1880s 1
1890s 2
1900s 2
1910s 0
1920s 4
1930s 12
1940s 0
1950s 1
1960s 6
1970s 1
1980s 2
1990s 1
2000s 0
2010s 3

So almost half (16/34) happened between the two wars.

The most popular dates for 5-5s are 3rd November (3) and 15th October (2). The most popular month is November (9).

So:

Now 35 5-5 league draws.

Villa's third 5-5, but first at home. Forest's first. Fourth of the decade; only 1930s (12) and 1960s (6) had more.

Ten of the 35 5-5s have happened in November.

We drew many games 5-5 when the ref couldn't get his boots off.

Fuck the short term we will build a 1000 year Hull City Reich
