Which chart are you going by as I can think of half a dozen females, including our own Vera Lynn, who had number one hits in the 1950s?

2005 Labour got 355 seats from 35.2 % of the vote on a 62.4% turnout. 2015 Tories got 331 seats from 36.9% of the vote on a 661% turnout. Left wing fannies moan the second one is sooooo unfair and we need electoral reform. But didn't utter a peep, about the first one.

Billboard post 1950

Just in the 1950s there were Vera Lynn, Teresa Brewer, Patti Paige, Eileen Barton, Kay Starr and Rosemary Clooney.that I can think of and there will no doubt be more. Presumably you mean solo artists?
I can think of 10 in the 1960s without trying. 1970s not so much as that was an awful decade for music and fashion after the 60s and I wasn't as interested. Never as good after your teens.Bigsmile

Petula Clark with Downtown, about 1965, first British female to top the USA billboard charts since Vera Lynn in 1952.

Was that 6 British females? You didn't say that in the original post.

You've named 5. Add Vera Lynn and Petula Clark.
