TOP, why does the team who finishes 19th in the Championship always have a brilliant season the following year?

Only TOP has the answer.

Now then...

Agree with Clog and I have posted this earlier on this thread, please see above.
With us safe, play a side that got a point last week, put pressure on a Cardiff team, nervy and have a right go, if only to see Colin fume. No, Nige tinkers again, we play like we’ve never seen each other before. 2 games left nowt to play for and we get served up a pile of cack. It Never happened and for all the possession we had, we created absolutely nothing.

Right onto the players..

Thank fuck that’s the last time I see Aina, who once again, with socks rolled down, thought he was playing at a higher level. How casual is he, he plays like he could not give a shit, feel for Moses who will probably get fucked off, but if was fit Aina would not get a look in.
Kingsley was shocking and totally inept at going forward with the ball, Swansea must be very relieved to have offloaded him.
McGreggor should really have caught that ball or attempted to punch it for the 1st goal, he’d have got a free kick from the weak ref. He’s had a decent season, but only because he’s had to. Let him go Ehab his wages are too high, soMarshall to look forward to then.
Dawson the Hull Tiger quarterback actually looked liked he cared, but his pace has gone and his booming cross field ball only worked once.
Myler again looked like cared, shame he’s gone now, get him off the wage bill eh Ehab? but him and Brassneck in midfield does not work
Brassneck will be Captain next season under Nige, sees lots of the ball, but does nothing with, flails his arm in the arm as he passes and along with Diomande, will be our 2 permanents next season.
McDonald got injured and does not look strong enough to be a centre half
Mazuch came on and passed it back to the Quarterback
Grosicki was shite, then feined injury to hobble off to his agent
Wilson had an off day today, probs because Kingsley had no idea, but he’s too good for us and will be at Villa/ Fulham/ Boro next season
Campbell’s not willing to do anything and has no legs
Keane is no Mandy Carroll and never will be, his Control was appalling and his goal threat, runs, challenges were non-existant.
Bowen came on and will get flogged to keep Allam Marine in profit.

Dicko on the naughty step?, not getting a game
Hernandez, Larson sat with their agents

Cost me £12 and I demand a refund

Only TOP has the answer.

I appreciate your faith in my investigative abilities, Nash old bean, but I'm not certain I have the question, never mind the answer.

Anyway, I have some findings, and I'll place them here for your perusal.

I wasn't sure whether you precisely meant The Championship, or whether you were more generally referring to the tier below the PL, so I've made a list of all since the PL was shoved through our letterboxes with a disconcerting squelch and a lingering iffy aroma.

Team that came 19th - how they did they following season

1992-3..Luton..................1993-4..20 th
1993-4..Watford...............1994-5..7th
1994-5..Portsmouth.........1995-6..21st
1995-6..Birmingham........1996-7..10th
1996-7..Swindon..............1997-8..18th
1997-8..Port Vale.............1998-9..21st
1998-9..Portsmouth.........1999-0..18th
1999-0..Crewe.................2000-1..14t h
2000-1..Stockport............2001-2..24th , relegated
2001-2..Grimsby..............2002-3..24th , relegated
2002-3..Bradford.............2003-4..23rd relegated
2003-4..Burnley...............2004-5..13t h
(Division renamed The Championship from 2004-5 onwards)
2004-5..Coventry.............2005-6..8th
2005-6..Sheff W...............2006-7..9th
2006-7..Leicester............2007-8..22nd , relegated
2007-8..Blackpool............2008-9..16th
2008-9..Nottm F..............2009-0..3rd, missed out in play-offs
2009-0..Coventry............2010-1..18th
2010-1..Derby.................2011-2..12t h
2011-2..Nottm F..............2012-3..8th
2012-3..Huddersfield......2013-4..17th
2013-4..Millwall..............2014-5..22n d, relegated
2014-5..Reading.............2015-6..17th
2015-6..Huddersfield.....2016-7..5th, up via play-offs
2016-7..Birmingham.......2017-8..?

So, as you'll have noticed, five out of 24 teams were relegated (or two out of 12 if you're being strict about The Championship bit).

One out of 24 (or one out of 12) has been promoted. Another missed out in the play-offs.

The average position after finishing 19th has been 15.44th, but Birmingham's efforts this season will make that a little lower and they might even finished 19th again.

I might need you to firm up some of your terms as I'm having a few difficulties with some of them, such as "brilliant" and "always".

Hope this has been a help! Wink

Skills TOP. Should've been on a different thread, really. Sorry.

Seems a case of the mind playing tricks on me, then.

No prob. I did wonder if you were thinking of the position just above the trap door, rather than 19th specifically. It would be interesting to see where promoted and relegated teams finished in the season before. I'll make a mental note.
