Hull have a 90 minute silence throughout every home game, so having a dedicated 2 minute one is hardly showing respect.

Those that want to wear poppies should, those that don't shouldn't. End of discussion and it's no-one else's business what a personal choice is on this matter. No football team had them as standard on shirts between 1918 -2005, so it hardly matters this far away from the two wars.

You've been living in Singapore too long, Cheats old bean. Forgotten what freedom to choose and freedom of expression are. If you need to virtue signal, go ahead, but don't force it onto others.

I really don't think the dead of Flanders Fields give a monkey's chuff whether Abel Hernandez is wearing a sewed-on poppy or not. If there is an afterlife, they're probably more bothered that the Queen of England's investment managers are funnelling taxpayers money into offshore accounts to avoid tax and to invest in companies which swindle the extreme poor - no doubt of whom some are the descendants of those that died in WW1.

Also in reply to Gull.

WW 2 was the deadliest conflict in history and not so long ago. 50 million odd died.

The recognition of that is overdone? It's only in .November you will see much concentrated attention to it, whereas Xmas last for 4 months and that is a mythical story from far longer back.

The poppy shirt is a great idea and one that generates good extra money for the cause, but not according to the Allams who tried to slide it past without people noticing, like Fish selling the nameplate and replacing it with a plastic one. One assumes the embroidery cost for 15 shirts was c£25 so it was ruled out.

They are wankers and I believe they lied about it.

Xmas? Crap analogy and one that diverts away from what the point being made was (although I do agree with the stuff about it being a totally mythical story, with religion getting more ridiculous by the day - shooting in the US church - we are praying for you, for gods mercy, blah blah - WTF, have people really not got even a fraction of a brain sufficient to realize how ridiculous this is?!).
No problem with ongoing concerted focus during the month of November, selling poppies, remembering, raising money for good use, etc . Just that I don't need or want 2 minutes silence a) at a football match, b) at multiple football matches on different days of the week over a 2 week or more period c) at any time in addition to the proper times of 11/11 at 11 and on Remembrance Sunday. Besides being unnecessary, ridiculous, kowtowing to PC, if anything it even dilutes what it should be. All in my own opinion, but that's what I feel; I doubt I'm on my own (by a long, long way).

And I agree about the wankers too #ofcourse

I think they have had the silence at footy for long time, but stand corrected on that. That said, footy used to kick off at 3pm on a Saturday so you could get quite close to rememberence Sunday without much bother.

I kind of agree with you - don't agree with charity per se in my opinion in that it only ever scratches the surface and the root cause is never dealt with - politics or religion.

Just read that millions of squids for Ebola went "missing". I also understood that most of the donations for the tsunami have not been distributed. Having been in Indo a lot, I can vouch for it being a destitute place, but it was probably like that before the tsunami.
