Our liberal media seem to be taking the opportunity to demonize the great man.

I haven't read his speech for a while, but I had forgotten how mean and nasty it was.

One thing we really need at the moment is for old prejudices to be raked up against Blacks and Sikhs, to add to the shit handed out daily to Muslims and, recently, Poles and other East Europeans. Still, teddie, you may well get your way and live to see an all white Britain again. If Brexit affects our economy as badly as some fear, who the fuck will want to stay here? You, teddie, and a few more nutty white supremacists? Back to the 50s or before, but solidly conservative, so not even an NHS or a council house or two. Mind you, if there are that many leaving, we'll all be able to have two houses each.

Still, we may be a radio active wasteland by then.

Powell wasn't a racist. That was Tony Benn who said that, BTW.

The fifties contained the 2 years when the most council houses were built. Under a Conservative government,

2005 Labour got 355 seats from 35.2 % of the vote on a 62.4% turnout. 2015 Tories got 331 seats from 36.9% of the vote on a 661% turnout. Left wing fannies moan the second one is sooooo unfair and we need electoral reform. But didn't utter a peep, about the first one.

I'm not a nutty white supremacist and neither was Enoch. I prefer to place his speech in the context of 1968, which doesn't make him the demon contemporary liberals will try to paint him now.

Is this daily shit you refer to today really all one way? White prejudice is the only prejudice? How many murders were committed in London in the first 3 months of 1968?

So how old were you in 1968? I thought it was mean and nasty racism then, and still do.

Has "the Black man got the whip hand over the White man"?

A rise from a record low.

1968 is now history and most of history was mean and nasty.

I went to school and college in the 1940s and 1950s and found it no worse than today. I had a fucking great time in the 1960s. Enoch-Powell was a nasty, grubby man in any age. And don't bother to bring up his educational record. Ancient fucking Greek. No wonder we were shit at manufacturing!

Says the man whose only connection to manufacturing was a couple of weeks as a delivery man before he scuttled back to the comfort, long holidays and subsidised pension of his public sector job. We were better at manufacturing then than we are now with our army of Media Studies graduates. I blame the teachers.

Powell apart from ancient languages could converse with Pakistanis as he was fluent in Urdu. Unlike old codgers in Northampton who, in their insular, racist way think everyone should converse in English.

I worked in a Leather Dressers when I was 15, on the buildings, on East Midlands Town Mains gang as well as as a courier. I also started teaching the day after my 18th birthday, but that doesn't count. (Nor does Import-Export!)

I liked the job. Out on the open road with audio tapes to listen to and nothing but traffic jams to annoy. me. When I realised that being self employed, according to the firm, was just a description they used to escape all the extras like holiday pay, sick pay, insurance etc I went back to Supply Teaching and worked short hours for two days a week and came out with more money. I fucking hated it.

Of course, we've never had so many employed; on Zero Hours (which suits exiled's sons) and more and more self-employed, who are often older blokes who cannot get a regular job and try to exist on odd jobs. They are amongst the poorest of the working poor.

I was sure that many of the Leave voting bloc stated that they were not racist, but wanted to have stronger ties to commonwealth countries. Strangely silent over deportations of Windrush migrants, who were born on British soil so had no need to register as British citizens back in the 1960s.

If it's any help, this person - who almost voted leave and has never had much more than contempt for the EU but nevertheless eventually voted Remain - did last week sign an online petition in support the Windrush migrants (though uncertain how they were migrants if they were born here, but there we go).

Good for you, Phantasy old bean. I did the same. A very strange state of affairs. Net migration of around 400k annually and the home office focus on those who have lived here half a century. Shameful state of affairs really. Two decades of a lack of clear policy and then a ridiculous reaction. I'm hoping that May's direction of the bombing in Syria and this will see her gone.

Interesting.

Not a great fan of racism at all but neither a fan of Islam or Scientology.

It’s Ideology and values that matter to me not the colour of skin.

Powell was wrong - especially with his forecasts.

I hope with Ramadhan approaching that there are no more rivers of blood this year but we just had another suicide bomb kill 52 in Kabul

Enoch Powell was one of the most intelligent and well read men to have countered British politics.

His understanding and ideas of Northern Ireland were/are of outstanding quality.

Pillorried for saying something that didn’t quite turn out as described was a failure of the press to observe a man of quality. That said, 1984 didn’t happen until around 2010,so maybe it’s just a question of timing. Look at the US, a picture of utter harmony in most conurbations.

Where is the next Powell, because the world needs him or her.

Nope. Hitler was a tyrant and a murdering bastard. Powell was a tactician, politician, magician.

No common denometer there.

They both spoke against "the other" living in their societies. Granted, Hitler went further, but we are British. Still.

I think it’s a legal certainty that if desired (windrush aside) one will always remain British, if currently British.

True, Hitler did “go further”, which is a bit of an understatement for kicking off a world war and genocide versus a soapbox I’ll wager.

Wyat we really need is another Stalin. He would certainly solve problems of over population.

Wyatt Earp? Not sure he'd be reading a Hull City off-topic internet forum from beyond the grave, let alone have the ability to create another Stalin. He may be able to delete the gap between over and population using supernatural editorial powers though.

Nearly 80 but the old boy can still spot a typo. Still doesn't talk much sense though.

Wait until you make one of your extremely frequent errors, old bean.

The gap caused by the forum not carrying over whole words but splitting them when they don't fit the line?

2005 Labour got 355 seats from 35.2 % of the vote on a 62.4% turnout. 2015 Tories got 331 seats from 36.9% of the vote on a 661% turnout. Left wing fannies moan the second one is sooooo unfair and we need electoral reform. But didn't utter a peep, about the first one.

Bile does not make errors but he is beset by random malicious "errors" caused by The Forum. Instead of moving the entire long word to the next line, as it would for most, it splits the word correctly and adds a space.
