8406 posts #1 | Rather surprised that so many didn't realise that FaceBook was a data mining database essentially... How naive do you have to be to think that one of the biggest companies in the world offers a full online profile and network for the minor cost of a user reading a few adverts. I wonder if anyone has started questioning how WhatsApp and Instagram are free for the end user yet.
26106 posts #2 | I don't use Facebook, but were I to do so I would expect for there to be adverts - which I ignore and which advertisers pay handsomely for. I thought that's how it works. I use Spotify without paying and ignore the ads. I have a Football Score app that groans when NTFC's opponents score - frequently - but I have not bought it, I suffer the ads. To castigate me for not realising the cunts want even more from me than a few ads shows why I could never be a capitalist.

8406 posts #4 | It's easy to test. Get a new unregistered phone, set up WhatsApp on it, allow permissions as you have to to access all functionability, lock phone with app running in background, discuss something random eg. parquet flooring for a few minutes, next day log in and use internet to access a high burden advertising site ie. MailOnline, you'll get adverts popping up for parquet flooring... You can even send messages to friends and family and related adverts to words you type will pop up, plus all the potential political/relationship/opinion data is mined, stored and analysed by data science and sold.
