That's a very interesting question. It has nothing to do with the fact that they are our very best friends in the whole world, to whom we really wish to become closer. And good friends are supposed to tell when something is going very wrong. Which it is.

Slavery stopped in America a long while ago. Slave owning minds are very much alive even today.

The second wave of black family breakdown in post war USA is related to welfare and the loss of jobs from deindustrialisation the data is clear. Single parenthood and the problems you blame on slavery weren’t even there two generations ago.

We have the exact same symptoms of absent Black fathers here in the UK and the ensuing brother on brother violence. Is that due to multi-generational transfer of slavery related trauma as well?

Nah don’t buy it.

Ridiculous quote from a man who has never even been there let alone had ANY contact with black Americans...

I don't blame black family breakdown on slavery. I just mentioned the long term effects it may have had on the ideal of the white middle class idea of the perfect family. If you don't think its had any effect then say so and give me the references.

I don't know what you mean by slavery related trauma either.

You don't have to buy anything.

I've never been neck deep in dogshit but I already know I wouldn't want to be.

I haven't met any black Americans since the early 60s, but I don't see it's relevance to knowing about race in the US. Unless the media is Marxist with an agenda?

So, that might or might not be the beginning of a movement in the USA. People feeling the goalposts have been moved. When the extreme left of US politics starts to alienate the moderate left, there's only going to be one winner. Not just me thinking the far left has lost its marbles, though I'm far from ready to concede that I've changed my position. Plus I'll never vote Tory.

In America a Left is only beginning to emerge. Far Left is misused constantly, in this country and abroad. Far Left here means keeping an NHS in public hands and building homes. Amazing!

Far left to me is seeking equality of outcomes instead of opportunities and using identity politics to decide who gets what and what constitutes fair. This has proven as deadly as the Far right when they stray into racial politics..

Affirmative action, all women short lists, forced BAME, LGBTQ+ Talk of a patriarcy etc. all are steps in the wrong direction.

I want the competent to thrive not the ‘right sort’.

Have lived with class prejudice all my life don’t want it replacing with being labelled “cis gendered white male” and silenced because of who I was born as.

Another liberal decides the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. As it was in the past, as it will be in the future. I wonder why he thought he had to shout at me to get his message across. Perhaps he thought I was deaf, daft or both.

I would say I'm fairly moderate, I only want equal rights and justice and am prepared to stand up and say so. However equal rights and justice for the working class is impossible under capitalism.

Why haven’t the working class got equal rights to start Up themselves, form cooperatives, collectives, etc. Whatever they want...

The idea that today’s working class are not free to do whatever they want and are oppressed is ridiculous. That is the message of the last three decades to the working class. You don’t owe allegiance to anyone or any job or boss. You can set up a company / partnership in an hour from your mobile...

I have no idea why we are not teaching working class kids right now to forget finding a job - why not create one?

For so many reasons. Many the same reason that not all middle class people don't run their own start ups.

You could come up with a few yourself, exiled, but you are a Gig Economy Cultist. One clue is that work provides means for people to live. They are not looking for work for its own sake. We are not all bearers of the creative gene.

It's funny that you think you're fairly moderate. Still, at least you're prepared to debate.

Even those judges who send people to prison? Or do you not think depriving someone of their freedom is authoritarian?
