An embarrassing and ridiculous article. When I left UK shores for good, the Telegraph (and the Guardian and the Independent) were still proper newspapers. They're now just click-bait opinion pieces.

If I was a journalist, I'd be ashamed to have my name put to that. I've worked with Germans for 30 years and never had a problem with them, felt the need to insult them for a war my parents and grandparents were involved in or anything else derogatory, aside from exasperation and envy over football. It's a great country as a whole and it's a shame that I've not spent more time there.

Fawlty Towers was funny 40 years ago, but it's really time for many middle-aged men to move on with their lives and the times and to stop with the infantile obsession with a war that they never fought in or experienced properly. It's constant publication of rubbish like this that makes the UK seem petty, obsessed with the past and small-time - in general, Germans like and appreciate British culture, so why insult them.

What sort of cunt pays a subscription for The Telegraph?

The Fawlty Towers thing: Made in a time when people were intelligent enough to understand stereotypical fools - we laughed AT Basil, not WITH him.

Unfortunately, this whole nation is no longer deemed able to discern a parody - I doubt FT will ever be shown on the BBC again and I should imagine the sublime Dads' Army and the ridiculous 'Allo 'Allo aren't far behind.

As for the Germans - they started it, and we can trust them to start it again.

The German Ambassador seems to be out of goose step with modern Germany's attitude to its past. In recent times new WW2 museums have opened in Berlin and Munich. You can book WW2 history walking tours in Munich now. The German TV industry has started producing high quality dramas about the War, 'Generation War', and early Nazi/late Weimer Republic history in 'Babylon Berlin'. Ironic to tell us to shut up about our past when they have increased discussion and acceptance of theirs.

A large number of older Brexiteers, perhaps? Those holding on for a resurrection of Empire after Independence Day?

Just the right time to leave the EU where we can keep an eye on them and nip them in the bud. I'll worry when they start to threaten Russia.

Ironic to tell us to shut up about our past when they have increased discussion and acceptance of theirs.

They've been too busy building a strong economy to spend countless hours reliving the past, perhaps? Now they can spend a bit of time. We'll worry when they start telling themselves they were the goodies. Eh?
