More than 100,000 people are shot every year in the U.S., according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That generates about $2.8 billion per year in emergency room and inpatient charges alone, according to a recent study in Health Affairs. The average emergency room bill for an individual gunshot victim is $5,254 and the average inpatient charge is $95,887, according to the study.

The NRA's portfolios all include large numbers of Private Health Inc shares.

Sneaky.

Two thirds of gun deaths over there are suicides.

More people are jailed pro rata in the US than in any other country, hence "the land of the free".

More than a hundred people die every minute.

And yet millions each year apply to live in this land of the free.

Despite little public health care, widespread gun ownership, complex tax laws, the death penalty, white supremacy, racist policemen and Trump in charge.

Why is this?

Maybe a more pertinent question or debate is how bad must other countries be regarding freedoms, lifestyles and future, for so many to want to migrate to such an awful country. What is the US doing right that so many are not?

You may well have asked an interesting question - and answered it too. For all those attempting entry from the rest of the Americas, violence is already part of their lives, so is no real deterrent. The same goes for those from the Middle East. People from the "civilised world" go there to continue a comfortable life style; they don't usually live where most of the violence occurs.

People from 3rd World countries come to live in UK as it is "better" than where they come from. The fact that they might well suffer racism is no deterrence as they will almost certainly live with other peoples in a similar position. It is outweighed by other circumstances. Their lives are likely to be in considerably less danger than where they have left.

Life is often a case of "less worse", rather than fantastic.
