"We just sold a hull property at a £45k loss after 10years of ownership council tax etc. It was like a show house loads of viewings but most wanted to pay even less. In the same period in another northern city the same property would be £90k up. National figures are useless in the UK"

House prices are going, and have gone, up over most of Northern Europe since 2013. Even in countries with a glut of properties and available land, such as Ireland and Spain, they've seen prices that have outpaced the UK.

Yet still the media and politicians harp on about restrictive planning laws, lack of building and green belts as being the problem...

The answer is increased demand, from the top down and the bottom up.
