Was probably the cleanest in the lab tests - worst in the real world.

One of the most stupid things about traffic is that governments have spent years trying to slow it all down and persecuting motorists for no advantage at all. The term "traffic calming" is right out of Orwell, since it doesn't calm any drivers, and it just clogs up towns and cities so that more pollution is created than if the vehicles could move at any kind of pace. So now that the annual road deaths is below 2,000, we're told that 40,000 people die each year due to pollution caused by traffic, much of it stuck in jams not moving. But that's all fantastic, because fewer small people are getting run over.

Obviously traffic volumes have increased, but between them goverments and car manufacturers have a lot to answer for.

They have increased because public transport is so shit and has Jurassic cycles of investment. Even in the last three decades cars have been improved by crazy amounts. Even the smallest cheapest cars can be 5stars for both occupant and pedestrian safety. My son spends about £10 a week in his uber low MPG city car so a bus makes NO sense at all. No idiots sat with their feet on the seats, swearing, dodging fares etc. It goes from where he is to where he needs to be.

The lies that are told to maintain the trains, buses and trams are ridiculous. Even last week we got some propaganda here that tired to suggest cars invariably have one or two people in while :- buses, trams and trains are always full and therefore more efficient.

Are they fuck - apart from rush hour they are as occupied as the evil cars.

My electric car will be being recycled before we have electric buses and you only get a train infrastructure once in a societies existence because they are SO FUCKING EXPENSIVE. What would be better HS2 or zero students loans?

Tarmac over the rails and let virtual trains of self-driving lorries and buses empty our roads for us to use freely.

Next time you "jet" in for a game, make sure it's in a glider.

Agree public transport is ridiculously expensive how the fuck can it be cheaper (marginal costs) to drive on your own 6 miles into the city centre than it is to take the bus or train. I could drive in, my 6 miles find 3 hrs free parking within a 5 min walk of the city centre for under 1.50 return, it;s £4.90 on the train (and that's after a mile walk to the train station) or about £4.40 return on the bus.

In China for e.g. where petrol was about 70% of the cost here, there was a massive bus network and a tube network in its infancy (just four lines) but you could take a bus anywhere for 3 RMB (32p) including journeys of 20KM, or a tube similar distances for 55p.

Public transport was packed all day and well into the evening, car traffic was unfortunately still getting worse due to the 30% year on year car increase in car ownership (aspirational need) but would have been impossible without cheap and clean public transport.

For the good of us all I would have heavily subsidised well invested publicly funded public transport at a local level, not sure about national railways

Used to use Ocado when I lived in the UK. Was always satisfied.

Also, I bought my wife a diesel Qashqai for it's 4 wheel drive SUV capabilities, combined with relatively high km per litre for her 100km a day drive and the fact that it was advertised as being the cleanest in it's class. I await the class action and compensation for being lied to.

It's class. Oh dear.

2005 Labour got 355 seats from 35.2 % of the vote on a 62.4% turnout. 2015 Tories got 331 seats from 36.9% of the vote on a 661% turnout. Left wing fannies moan the second one is sooooo unfair and we need electoral reform. But didn't utter a peep, about the first one.
