I'm pretty sure in this country if such a shooting took place, the officer firing would be suspended and in the long term charged with a homicide offence, probably murder as the killing was deliberate.

The use of force is completely unjustified based on the threat and the tactical options available including taser, baton and pepper spray.

Only reason it would be justified is she drew this gun mentioned. That would have resulted in a split second decision to shoot.

Probably agree with most of that but the salient points being, a) it was not in this country and the USA do treat these things differently, and b) even if they did follow the UK practice it's still not an execution, which s the point I was correcting they on

When I see some of the incidents that regularly occur in USA, I reckon 1000 is a very low number indeed.

You seem to forget that a large percentage of the population have the right to bear arms, or as you might say bare arms. This plus the coppers being tooled up, will inevitably result in deaths, especially when the soon to be victim was gagging for it

I'm not so sure it's necessarily the case. As Timothy often points out other countries have lax gun laws compared to the UK without the same number of police shootings as the USA.

Their policing may be different and so to the tools available, but that doesn't mean death be the end result in such situations.

So what's important to you is what I called an officer of the state killing a citizen of that state? What would you call it?

You have become the NuBile.

What's important is you jumping on grammar and then using incorrect terms yourself.

My posts are to allow you to take a look at your approach to posting, and hopefully encourage you to grow up

Agreed PoM it doesn't through our eyes based on our experiences etc. , but society is different over there, for better or worse, and as i say it therefore does often end in death and surely those goading the coppers should take this into account.

As a younger chap I often gave the OB a bit if lip, but i would not do that in the USA or perhaps most other countries in the world. If you know that a police force often revert to the lethal use of arms why would you not take this into account in your behaviours? Not saying it's right just amazed at the outcry.

The facts are that more bad guys and more coppers are killed in the USA than over here just as more rice is grown in China, and pissing and moaning aint going to change that.

It is a perfectly correct term. I should have actually said "executed without trial", but was lazy.

So growing up means having a casual approach to someone's needless death? Nah mate, I'll stay infantile. But I do appreciate someone like you trying to 'educate' me.

But the pissing and moaning you do about what you consider 'serious' will?

I guess it's cultural. Our police are somewhat - albeit not completely - unique in that they're not routinely armed with deadly weapons - that's not to say there isn't gun related offences and crime out there. On the flip side if an officer uses fatal force they're often investigated to the nth degree by the IPCC/CPS for a couple of years - despite it generally being deemed lawful. Whereas across the Atlantic it seems - from an outsider looking in - most force used is just accepted as part of the job.

I believe it's the difference between "policing by consent" (UK) and "enforcing the law" (USA).
