Private companies were paid to clad towers over the last few years. Sixty or so blocks are unsafe. Councils are asking for public money to be used to put things right. Why not those who profited from the initial jobs?

I imagine in many cases, council officials okayed the cladding material, without fully understanding the consequences/danger of using the cheaper, more flammable material - so who is responsible, the production company? the supply company? the cladding fitting company? the council who okayed it? those who set the budget? the residents management committee who agreed? and so on...

The chances are that along the chain of purchase and fit, the majority f decision makers did not fully understand the material that they were choosing and agreeing with.. it's an error that bridges both private and public sector - those in jobs which they aren't qualified for... why employ people either at the council or for a private management company who work in procurement and design when they don't have thorough knowledge of what they're dealing with? Should they now be blamed and prosecuted for their ignorance?
